Create a festive set of Halloween ornaments with little more than paint, glitter and Dresdens artfully applied to wooden shapes. Add a pumpkin scrap for a vintage touch and velvet ribbon for rich color and texture. Feather trees far and wide will be more charming than spooky come October 31. Finished ornaments are 2-1/2" (pumpkin stars) and 3-1/2" tall (cat on moon).

Supplies: Wooden Cat on Moon, Wooden Stars, Glass Glitter, Narrow Dresden Borders, Dresden Stars and Medallions, Pumpkin Scraps, 1/8" Velvet Ribbon, Paints (Black, Gold, Silver), Paint Brushes, Clear Drying Craft Glue like Alleen's, Scissors, Q-tips, Gloves (for handling glitter)

Step 1: Paint Wooden Shapes

Paint shapes all over including edges, with two coats of paint. Let dry.

Step 2: Add Dresden Border

For Cat on Moon: glue a narrow Dresden border along the entire edge of the moon. Start at the cat's front paw and wrap border all the way around to end at the cat's back. Make sure border is positioned closely against the edge by using a Q-tip to smooth a thin bead of glue before applying border. Let dry.

Step 3: Add Glitter

For Cat on Moon: apply an even layer of glue over cat front, back and edges. With a gloved hand, sprinkle clear glitter sparingly but evenly over cat. Add more as desired. Tap off excess and let dry. Apply an even layer of glue over moon front and back, taking care to avoid Dresden border on edge and hanger at top. With a gloved hand, sprinkle silver glitter sparingly but evenly over moon. Tap off and let dry.

For Pumpkin Star: apply an even layer of glue on star front, back and edges, but sparingly at hanger. Pour glitter all over glue and tap off excess. Let dry.

Step 4: Add Dresden Stars

For Cat on Moon: Glue small Dresden stars onto moon. Three clustered like the cat is looking at them plus three more below him look sweet and catch the light beautifully when the ornament is hanging,

For Pumpkin Star: Glue black star on to star matching points evenly. Stagger and stack a gold or silver star over the black star so the points show evenly. Glue in place and let dry. Glue a pumpkin scrap in place over the Dresden stars. Let dry.

Step 5: Add A Ribbon Hanger

Cut a 9-1/2" long piece of velvet ribbon. Thread through hole, bring ends together , tie a knot and trim ends as needed. As always, display proudly!

Tips:

-- We like the look of both subtle sprinkled glitter and heavier more-dense glitter on the moon of Cat on Moon. Examples of both can be seen above.

-- For the Pumpkin Star, we like heavy glittering because less of the star shows from behind the Dresdens and scrap.

-- Try gold stars on a silver moon, silver on gold, silver on silver, gold on gold -- all look beautiful and variations are shown above.

-- Black glitter on a black cat looks rich and deep. We find it looks best when the black glitter is over a very dark black paint.

-- Glittered scraps are right at home and add lovely interest on the Pumpkin Stars.
